Filling in the Gaps: Wix App Developer Focuses Advancing Wix's Plug-and-Play Capabilities
Letting customers request a quote in your Wix Store used to require custom development. Now there's an app for that.

We’re excited to learn more about you! Let’s start at the beginning — who are you, what does your business do, and what types of services do you provide on the Wix platform?
Absolutely — excited to jump in!
I’m Joey, and I oversee WD Tech, which is the product arm behind a growing suite of Wix Apps built for real businesses that need functionality Wix doesn’t natively offer.

At its core, WD Tech is focused on building and scaling apps inside the Wix ecosystem — things like advanced quoting tools, wholesale/retail functionality, job board management, and other features that help businesses convert better, operate faster, and automate more of their day-to-day.

Our apps are designed to be plug-and-play, but we also know every business is a little different — so when someone needs a small one-time tweak or adjustment to be successful with one of our apps, we’re happy to support that. Our priority is making sure the apps actually work in the real world, not just in theory.

But we keep it simple:
We build Wix Apps. We support Wix Apps. And we keep improving them based on real customer feedback.
We’d love to hear your Wix “origin story.” When did you start building, what made you stick with it, and in what ways have your offers changed from that first site to what you do now?
For sure — the WD Tech origin story is actually pretty simple.
We spun up WD Tech as its own startup in 2023, backed by seed funding from WD Strategies. At the time, all we really knew was this: there were a lot of businesses on Wix asking for the same kinds of advanced features… and the only way to get them was through expensive, one-off custom builds.

We saw the pattern over and over — quoting workflows, wholesale logic, job management, stronger CRM tools — things shops needed to run their business, but that weren’t available as plug-and-play solutions.

So instead of rebuilding the same features repeatedly, we decided to create apps that solved those recurring problems in a scalable way.

That’s really how WD Tech was born:
Take the most common requests we kept hearing, package them into clean usable apps, and make sure businesses could get powerful functionality without hiring a full development team every time they needed something.

Fast-forward to now, and our focus hasn’t changed — it’s just gotten sharper. We still listen closely to what the marketplace is asking for, and we use that feedback to evolve our apps, add new ones, and keep expanding the ecosystem.

Today, WD Tech exists to give Wix users access to the tools they’ve been asking for — at SaaS velocity instead of custom-development pricing.
What makes your services different from other builders? And what do you tell people who still think Wix is only for beginners or simple sites?
Great question — because we’re definitely different from typical “builders.”
Unlike most teams in the Wix space, WD Tech isn’t an agency or a dev shop. We don’t sell websites, monthly retainers, or custom builds as our core business. We build products — specifically, Wix Apps designed to solve the real operational gaps that businesses run into on the platform.

Most builders think in terms of “projects.”
We think in terms of scalable software that thousands of businesses can rely on.

Our advantage is that we’re laser-focused. Each app we create is built, tested, and continually improved based on patterns we see across the entire marketplace — not just a single client’s request. And when someone does need a small customization so our app fits their exact workflow, we can support that without turning it into a full development engagement.

The truth is, Wix can do far more than most people realize — especially when you combine native features with well-built apps. We’ve seen businesses run quoting workflows, wholesale operations, logistics processes, membership systems, and full operational back-offices right on Wix.

Give us a deeper look at your service offerings. Are there any memorable projects that helped you grow or refine your process?
Absolutely — the centerpiece of what we do right now is our flagship app: Request-a-Quote for Wix.

When we talk about “our offerings,” we really start there, because that app is the perfect example of the kind of problem WD Tech was created to solve. For years, Wix users kept saying the same thing:
“I don’t sell with a simple add-to-cart. I need a quoting workflow.”

But the only way to get that on Wix was through fully custom Velo builds — expensive, hard to maintain, and impossible to scale. So we built Request a Quote for Wix to provide a clean, guided quoting experience that any business can drop directly into their site.

The app handles:
• Quote submissions
• Customizable product request forms
• Price-hidden catalog shopping
• Automated notifications
• A full quote management dashboard
• And a workflow designed around businesses that sell through conversation, not clicks
Tell us about your niche — or lack of one! Do you love working across many industries or honing your craft in one specific area? And why does that approach work for you?
Great question — because our niche is actually a mix of broad and very specific, depending on the app.

Some of our products, like the Job Board for Wix or Rotating Text Display, are intentionally built for everyone. Those tools solve universal problems that show up across industries — hiring, dynamic content, simple on-site interactions. Whether you’re a contractor, a salon, a nonprofit, or an online store, those apps plug right in and start delivering value.

On the other hand, we have apps like Request a Quote, which is designed for a more focused use case: businesses that don’t rely on a typical add-to-cart model. Manufacturers, wholesalers, specialty retailers, custom services — the teams that need a structured quoting workflow instead of a checkout.
Thank you for such a rich conversation. To close out, what three pro tips would you offer our readers — and how can they reach you if they want to work with you?
Definitely — here are my top three pro tips, especially for anyone looking to get more out of Wix with the help of our apps:

1. Use apps that match how your business actually operates.

If you sell through back-and-forth conversations, Request a Quote gives you the structure you need.
If hiring is a priority, Job Board keeps everything organized in one place.
If you want dynamic messaging, Rotating Text Display instantly upgrades your site’s engagement.

2. Let your tools reduce your manual workload.

Our apps are built to replace things businesses often do by hand — sorting applicants, tracking quote requests, or updating repetitive content. Let the software handle the busywork so you can focus on customers.

3. Keep your setup clean and consistent.

You don’t need heavy customization or complicated builds. Our apps work best when they’re used as intended: simple to install, easy to configure, and built to scale with your site.
